Ascendant trumpeter and composer Takuya Kuroda is set to make his Blue Note debut with the February 18 release of Rising Son, which was produced by José James. Kuroda, who is best known for his inspired presence in James’ band, steps forth here to helm that remarkable band which features keyboardist Kris Bowers, electric bassist Solomon Dorsey, drummer Nate Smith, and trombonist Corey King.

Blue Note Records will turn 75 on January 6, 2014, which is the anniversary of the very first recording session with boogie woogie pianists Albert Ammons & Meade Lux Lewis. We'll be kicking off the year with a concert celebration on January 8 at Town Hall in New York City as part of Winter Jazzfest featuring pianists Robert Glasper & Jason Moran.

Blue Note is very excited that the wonderful Cuban pianist & composer Fabian Almazan will be releasing the very first Blue Note-ArtistShare project titled Rhizome in February 2014. Fabian is a member of Terence Blanchard's Quintet & was featured on Terence's recent album Magnetic.

Blue Note Records has announced a November 25 release date for Thelonious Monk Paris 1969, a fascinating and important late-career document of the legendary jazz pianist and composer in performance with his Quartet at the Salle Pleyel concert hall in Paris, France on December 15, 1969. Beautifully captured on B&W film, the concert also featured a surprise guest appearance from renowned drummer Philly Joe Jones. Also included is a rare on-camera interview with Monk that was conducted by the French bassist Jacques Hess after the concert. Paris 1969 will be available in several formats including physical releases on CD/DVD, CD and vinyl, as well as a digital album.
