Multiple Grammy-winning trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard is set to release his new album Breathless May 26 on Blue Note Records. With his new quintet, The E-Collective, Blanchard journeys into an exciting zone of grooved fusion teeming with funk, R&B and blues colors. The album is a statement piece with the title referencing “I can’t breathe,” the words of Eric Garner that have since echoed across the country in protest of discrimination. “Soldiers,” the first single from the album, is available today on all streaming services and digital retailers. Breathless is available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon.

Robert Glasper has released his new single “Reckoner,” a cover of the Radiohead song which is available today on all streaming services and digital retailers. The track appears on the keyboardist’s forthcoming album Covered (The Robert Glasper Trio recorded live at Capitol Studios), which will be released June 16 on Blue Note Records. Glasper has also announced upcoming tour dates in support of the new album, including Trio shows in New York City (Blue Note Jazz Club, June 24-27), San Francisco (SFJAZZ, June 19-20), and Los Angeles (venue TBD, June 17).

Blue Note Records/Universal Music France has signed the acoustic-electronica trio GoGo Penguin. Hailing from Manchester in the United Kingdown, GoGo Penguin are pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka and drummer Rob Turner. Drawing on a heady brew of influences from Brian Eno, John Cage, Massive Attack and Aphex Twin to Manchester’s grey rain-streaked urban streets they create a brave new sound all their own.

Dan Aykroyd and Judy Belushi have announced the creation of Blues Brothers Records, a new record label dedicated to the development of blues artists that will be distributed by Blue Note Records. Aykroyd, aka Elwood Blues, has made a lifelong quest of his support for blues musicians, seeking out new and upcoming artists and giving them an invaluable platform via his long-running and award-winning radio show Elwood’s BluesMobile.
