Guitarist Julian Lage has released the new single “Aberdeen,” a bright, swinging piece recorded during the sessions for the guitarist’s acclaimed album Scenes from Above, which was produced by Joe Henry and features Lage in a quartet with John Medeski on organ and piano, Jorge Roeder on bass, and Kenny Wollesen on drums. DownBeat called the album “intimate yet expansive,” noting that “this is the sound of a band discovering itself in real time,” and praising “Lage’s ever-present earthy brilliance.”
Lage has also announced the Nov. 27 release of The Reservoir Sessions, a Black Friday Record Store Day exclusive LP which will be available at indie record stores on translucent orange vinyl. Also produced by Joe Henry, the album presents a 6-song set of original compositions and standards which finds Lage in a trio with bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Joey Baron.
