ROSANNE CASH LAUNCHES NEW ALBUM WITH CBS SUNDAY MORNING, LETTERMAN, COURIC, NPR MORNING EDITION, NY TIMES MAGAZINE; ANNOUNCES TOUR

January 13, 2014

Rosanne Cash will support her new album, The River & The Thread – due out tomorrow on Blue Note Records – with a series of high profile media appearances and performances, including “Late Show with David Letterman” (Thursday, January 16), “CBS Sunday Morning” (January 19) and “The Katie Couric Show” (Friday, January 24) plus a North American tour. The run kicks off on January 25 in Burlington, ON.  Cash and producer/guitarist John Leventhal will perform a trio of shows as a duo, including evenings at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (February 22) and Seattle’s Moore Theatre (February 26). She will be backed by her full band on the remaining dates, which include a four-night stand at the SF JAZZ Center’s Robert N. Miner Auditorium in San Francisco (April 10-13). See below for itinerary or visit http://rosannecash.com/tour/ for tickets and additional details.

In addition to the TV appearances, Cash will be very present on the radio airwaves. NPR’s “Morning Edition” aired this feature on Cash today and she will appear on a special live, hour-long broadcast from Rockwood Music Hall on NYC radio station WFUV and http://WFUV.org tonight at 8 PM. Her performance on NPR’s World Café aired this past Friday and she was also featured on LA’s KCSN last week. She performed on Steve Earle’s show on SiriusXM station Outlaw Country this past Saturday and will appear on Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale’s show on the same station next Saturday (January 18). Cash will also guest on this week’s episode of the syndicated show “Acoustic Café,” perform live with her band on the talk radio institution “Imus in the Morning” – airing on Fox Business TV and radio affiliates on January 15 – and will be featured on LA’s KCRW show “Morning Becomes Eclectic” on January 16. She will do an in-store performance and signing at the Barnes & Noble in NYC’s Union Square on Wednesday, January 15, at 7 PM.

“Rosanne Cash Goes Home,” declared The New York Times Magazine in this feature, published yesterday, which details the factors that inspired the NYC-based artist to examine the many facets of Southern music in The River & The Thread. NPR.org streamed the album in the week leading up to its release, with Ann Powers noting, “From the bluesy opening salvo ‘A Feather’s Not a Bird’ through the peaceful, countrified ‘Etta’s Tune’ and the majestic ‘When the Master Calls the Roll’… Cash matches styles to stories, showing her mastery of Southern music’s many dialects.” NPR’s “Fresh Air” praised The River & The Thread as “a timeless work” in this review, the Oxford American called it “the best music of her career” and Uncut hailed it as a “Mesmerizing trek through the land of Dixie,” giving it a 10 out of 10 rating and observing: “Cash paints her masterpiece.”

To accompany the album release, Cash has launched a unique Pinterest board that chronicles the journey she took in creating The River & The Thread.  Utilizing the service’s recently launched Place Pins feature, she has created an “interactive map” of the album, linking song lyrics with specific locations as diverse as the Tallahatchie Bridge in Mississippi, the Sunken Lands of Arkansas and Charcoal Hill in London, with many stops in between. The board is part of Cash’s Pinterest account at http://www.pinterest.com/realrosannecash/the-river-the-thread-album-map/. Cash is also releasing a series of podcast recordings where she discusses the background of specific songs on the album. Two episodes have been released so far at https://soundcloud.com/bluenoterecords/sets/rosanne-cash-the-river-the-1, with additional episodes to be released in coming weeks. Her “Yahoo! Ram Country” session will premiere on January 22.

The River & The Thread contains 11 original songs written by Cash and John Leventhal, who also served as producer, arranger and guitarist. The album features appearances by Cory Chisel, Rodney Crowell (who also co-wrote one song), Amy Helm, Kris Kristofferson, Allison Moorer, John Prine, Derek Trucks, John Paul White (The Civil Wars), Tony Joe White and Gabe Witcher (The Punch Brothers). It follows 2009’s The List, which was nominated for two GRAMMY® Awards, won the Americana Music Award for Album of the Year and was a critics’ favorite.

Born in Memphis and raised in California, Cash has recorded 15 albums, including 1981’s Seven Year Ache and 1987’s King’s Record Shop – both certified Gold. Rosanne has charted 21 Top 40 country singles, 11 of which climbed to No. 1. She has received 12 GRAMMY nominations, winning in 1985. Cash has also published four books, including her 2010 bestselling memoir, Composed, which The Chicago Tribune hailed as “one of the best accounts of an American life you will likely ever read.” Her essays and fiction have appeared in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, New York magazine and the Oxford American, among others. She recently wrapped up a three-day residency at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.
